Monavon Construction Limited pleaded guilty in May to two offences of corporate manslaughter and one offence contrary to section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The case arose out of the tragic deaths of two men who died when they pushed one another against hoarding, which surrounded a construction site operated by Monavon, which collapsed. The men fell into an unprotected light well.
HHJ Worsley, sitting at the Central Criminal Court, imposed a fine of £250,000 on each count of manslaughter and £50,000 for the HSWA offence, to be paid within 2 years.
Jonathan Laidlaw QC and Craig Ferguson were instructed by Nina Dhillon of DWF LLP.
Oliver Glasgow QC and Julia Faure Walker prosecuted.
