2 Hare Court has significant experience in prosecuting and defending cases relating to environmental regulation, including those concerning the treatment and disposal of waste and air and water pollution. We represent a broad range of clients from large corporates through to SME’s and individuals and act for the Environment Agency, local authorities and other state bodies.
Some examples from our practice include: prosecuting what was then the largest case brought by the EA for waste and related POCA offences (O’Donnell and others), representing Thames Water in a very large illegal river discharge case, acting for a waste company accused of unlawfully exporting waste for incineration in Poland and representing a construction company alleged to have caused extensive damage to dormouse habitat.
Our Members have also defended those facing charges under CITES regulation, for example, an individual who smuggled £50m of endangered eels to Hong Kong, a jeweller who sold gold products containing elephant hair and a fashion-influencer who smuggled clothing containing python skin.
