Ella’s practice focuses on criminal defence and prosecution, professional discipline and inquests.

Recent fraud instructions include acting as a led junior in a paper heavy trial at Southwark Crown Court representing a banker accused of conspiring with five others to defraud his employer. She is currently acting in various private prosecutions on behalf of the DVSA and is also instructed on a large-scale HMRC VAT-fraud investigation.

Her current general crime instructions include acting for the first defendant in a five-handed conspiracy to supply Class A drugs involving modern slavery issues, and representing individuals accused of serious sexual offences.

Ella has a growing interest in licensing and regulatory work. Recent instructions include prosecuting on behalf of Trading Standards departments, with one case involving £625k’s worth of counterfeit goods. Last year, she was seconded to a business crime firm to assist in a multi-million-pound regulatory inquiry.

Ella regularly acts on behalf of regulators and for medical professionals accused of serious misconduct, including dishonesty allegations, before the major healthcare regulators, including the MPTS and NMC. Her most recent FtPSH, heard for 4 weeks in total, comprised the defence of a clinical lead at an 85-bed care centre and involved the cross-examination of four CQC inspectors.

Ella has experience advising and representing Interested Persons, predominantly medical practitioners, at inquests and PIRH.

Before coming to the Bar, Ella worked as a legal researcher in the white-collar crime department of Peters & Peters Solicitors LLP. She specialised in international sanctions law, drafting a report for the Japanese government on AML enforcement in the UK and EU, making her uniquely placed to advise on matters that touch on both sanctions and criminal law.
