Amy has a busy criminal defence practice and is also a CPS Level 1 Panel Advocate. Her case experience includes a wide range of offences, including violence, drugs, and fraud. She is regularly instructed in private driving matters.

Amy’s recent Crown Court defence work includes representing clients successfully at the following sentencing hearings:

  • R v M (Central Criminal Court) – Committal for contempt of court. Before the Common Serjeant of London. Defendant had shouted abuse at the judge and jury following his friend’s conviction for attempted murder. The Common Serjeant stated that he had been considering a period of ‘months’ of imprisonment but following mitigation, passed a sentence of 7 days imprisonment. The case was reported by the BBC and other media.
  • R v T (Leeds Crown Court) – Represented a defendant convicted of having a weapon in a Young Offenders Institution. The weapon was discovered following an incident where another boy was seriously hurt. The defendant had a number of relevant previous convictions and turned 18 just before the start of proceedings. The starting point for an adult offender was 9 months’ custody. Result – 3 months’ custody.
  • R v H (Inner London Crown Court) – Represented a defendant convicted of wounding, contrary to s.20 Offences against the Person Act 1861 and causing actual bodily harm, contrary to s.47 Offences against the Person Act 1861. The defendant had substantial health problems. Result – 8 month suspended sentence plus a 3 month curfew.
