We are delighted to congratulate four members of Chambers on their recent appointments to independent sports disciplinary panels, reflecting the breadth of their expertise in regulatory, disciplinary and sports law.
- Brendan Kelly KC has been appointed to the Golf Disciplinary Panel and the London Irish Rugby Disciplinary Panel, where he will sit on independent tribunals considering disciplinary and regulatory issues arising within their respective sports. These appointments further reflect his expertise in sports regulation and disciplinary proceedings.
- Brian O’Neill KC has been appointed as a member of the England Boxing Disciplinary Panel, which hears disciplinary, safeguarding, anti-doping and appeals cases, helping to ensure the fair and independent resolution of regulatory matters within the sport. England Boxing is the National Governing Body for the sport of Boxing in England, overseeing more than 1,000 affiliated clubs and more than 35,000 members spread across the country.
- Richard Heller has joined the Surrey Junior Cricket Championship Disciplinary Panel, responsible for determining disciplinary matters and promoting high standards of conduct and fair play across junior cricket in Surrey. The Surrey Junior Cricket Championship is one of the biggest junior cricket leagues in the country, providing competitive cricket for boys and girls from Under 8 through to Under 21.
- Grace Forbes has been appointed as Pro Bono Counsel to Sport Resolutions, joining a panel of specialist lawyers who provide pro bono legal advice and representation to athletes and other individuals of limited financial means involved in sports-related matters. Sport Resolutions is the UK’s independent, not-for-profit dispute resolution service for sport, providing arbitration, mediation and expert legal services across a wide range of sporting issues, including disciplinary, safeguarding, anti-doping and governance matters.
- Harry Laidlaw has been appointed to the Home Counties Premier Cricket League (HCPCL) Panel, which considers disciplinary and regulatory matters under the League’s conduct regulations, supporting the integrity and governance of one of the country’s leading recreational cricket competitions.The HCPCL is an ECB Premier League and represents the highest level of recreational club cricket across the Home Counties.
These appointments are a testament to our members’ recognised expertise in sports regulation and disciplinary proceedings, reinforcing Chambers’ strong reputation across the sports law sector. As pro bono appointments, they also reflect our members’ commitment to ensuring that regulatory bodies across the sporting landscape have access to expert legal input at all levels.
