James Cox has been appointed Secretary of the Human Rights Lawyers Association for 2026–27, following his election to the Executive Committee in January.
HRLA is a specialist professional organisation, which exists to protect and promote human rights in the United Kingdom by increasing knowledge and understanding of human rights, and aiding their effective implementation within the UK legal framework and system of government. It currently has over 2,000 members, including barristers, solicitors, judges, and legal academics.
James Cox is a barrister specialising in criminal defence, public law, extradition, and international matters. He has a particular interest in, and expertise in, matters with a human rights dimension.
