Michael Misick, the former premier of the overseas British Territory of the Turks and Caicos Islands, was found guilty of offences of Bribery and Money Laundering during his time in office. The former Minister of Natural Resources, McAllister Hanchell, was also convicted for offences of bribery and money laundering. Michael Misick’s brother and local attorney, Thomas Chalmers Misick, was convicted for assisting the two men to launder the proceeds of the bribes they received. All offences related to large tourist developments in the Islands.
The case concerned complex multinational company structures and hidden international banking transfers amounting to over $21 million dollars. The defendants will be sentenced at a later date.
