Grace Forbes represented Chelsea F.C. Women’s striker and Matildas Captain, Sam Kerr, at a trial before the Honorary Recorder of Kingston upon Thames, HHJ Lodder KC.
Sam Kerr was charged with one count of racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress.
The jury returned a unanimous ‘Not Guilty’ verdict after a trial lasting 7 days.
The case concerned the words “stupid and white” spoken at the culmination of an argument that unfolded over the course of an hour at Twickenham police station.
At trial, Ms Kerr gave evidence about a terrifying cab journey that had preceded the argument, as well as her perception that she had been treated differently by some officers based on the colour of her skin.
At an earlier stage of proceedings, Grace made an application to stay the case as an abuse of process, flowing from events relating to two CPS charging decisions.
The Prosecution was represented by William Emlyn-Jones KC.
Counsel was instructed by Nii Anteson of Sheridans Solicitors, supported by Daniel Jackson of BCL Solicitors. The team also included Kathryn Williamson of Sheridans and Kate Chanter and Kate Collard of BCL.
