The defendant – a professional of good character – was charged with serious offences of false imprisonment, non-fatal suffocation and assault. The defence case throughout was that the defendant had been a witness to the incident and had consistently provided a full and detailed account at every opportunity, denying his involvement in any criminal offences.
Following written and oral submissions at Court by Gabriele Watts, the Judge directed the CPS to conduct a full review of the case. Having conducted the review, the CPS offered no evidence, and the defendant was acquitted of all charges by the Court.
Gabriele Watts represented the defendant throughout the proceedings, instructed by Maria Cronin, Rachel Cook and Liam Lane of Peters & Peters LLP.
