It is with sadness that Chambers reports the death of Michael Stuart-Moore who died, aged 80, on 29 December 2024. He leaves his wife Katherine, two children and three grandchildren. Stuart, as he was known to all of us, spent 27 years in Chambers, sitting as a Recorder at the Old Bailey, taking silk and becoming a Master of the Bench of the Middle Temple. In 2009 he was appointed to the High Court Bench in Hong Kong where he sat until elevated to the Court of Appeal, later becoming its Vice President. He retired in 2019 to Brisbane. Stuart’s practice at Hare Court was in the heavy criminal cases heard at the Old Bailey. Martin Heslop KC remembers him as a “brilliant prosecutor – so fair he made it really difficult to defend against! I suffered that on a number of occasions”. Out of court he was a friend to us all, with time always for the more junior in Chambers with whom he was anxious to impart the highest of professional standards and his great forensic skills. We miss him and send our condolences to his beloved family.
