The FT and BBC are today reporting that the MOJ is to launch a nine-week consultation in the New Year into the role of private and non-police prosecutors.
Possible initiatives apparently include a statutory code of standards, accreditation, and a new inspectorate. This of course all in the wake of the Post Office Horizon IT scandal and recent issues with the SJP and rail fare prosecutions.
However, no sign for now at least of any push to seriously curtail the right of an individual or corporation to bring a private prosecution.
