Nneka was instructed to defend Callum Hewell, one of nine defendants charged with murder. Police were called to an Internet cafe in the Liverpool City Centre on the 16th April last year where an 18 year old man was found to be unresponsive. He died a short time later from extensive head and neck injuries.
Eye-witnesses at the scene claimed that multiple individuals had entered the cafe and fatally assaulted the male before leaving in waiting vehicles.
The prosecution case was presented on the basis of joint enterprise and relied on extensive cell-site evidence and expert testimony in respect of fingerprint and footwear impressions.
Mr Hewell’s defence was that he was present at the scene but did not participate in the attack nor did he encourage or assist others to do so.
He was one of only three defendants to be unanimously acquitted of both murder and manslaughter following an 8 week trial at Liverpool Crown Court.
Nneka was instructed by Stuart Nolan, Managing Director at David Phillips & Partners.
