2 Hare Court | London Barristers Chambers - One of the UK's leading sets
News 20/04/2018

Michael Rawlinson’s client, a lorry driver and former Nepalese Gurkha, knocked Lord Taylor Blackburn from his mobility scooter at a zebra crossing whilst driving his lorry in November 2017. Lord Taylor suffered severe head injuries and died a few days later in hospital. The weather conditions were poor and Pandey had overshot a give way sign. He allowed several pedestrians go but pulled out two seconds after Lord Taylor began to cross without checking his mirrors properly.

Pandey was a “proud hard-working man” who was born into a poor family in Nepal and had come to Britain in 2010 to give his family a “better life”put his wife and 15-year-old son first.

The Judge suspended his sentence because of Pandey’s “genuine remorse” and the potential effect on his family.
