Naeem Mian wins Criminal Lawyer of the Year Award 2016
On Saturday 19th November at the annual Society of Asian Lawyers (SAL) Ball and Awards Ceremony at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in London, Naeem Mian won the award for Criminal Lawyer of the Year 2016.
The event was attended by 500 people including Judges, Solicitors and Barristers. Nominees for the award included both Solicitors and Barristers.
The award recognises Naeem’s expertise in acting for defendants charged with the most serious of offences including murder and in particular his unrivalled experience in terrorism and terrorism related matters. Usually briefed as Leading Counsel, to date Naeem has defended in some 35 terrorism cases including 7/7, R v Massad, R v Diini and R v AB & CD (the first terrorism trial to be held largely in secret). Amongst other cases, he is currently acting as Leading Counsel in the terrorism case of R v Hamid & Others. In addition to his criminal practice, Naeem is also one of a handful of Barristers who regularly appears for individuals subject to TPIMS (formerly Control Orders).
Naeem was given the award of Criminal Lawyer of the Year following consideration of nominations by an independent panel of judges chaired by HHJ Pegden QC.
