The award recognises Naeem’s expertise in acting for defendants charged with the most serious of offences including murder and in particular his unrivalled experience in terrorism and terrorism related matters. Usually briefed as Leading Counsel, to date Naeem has defended in some 35 terrorism cases including 7/7, R v Massad, R v Diini and R v AB & CD (the first terrorism trial to be held largely in secret). In addition to his criminal practice, Naeem is also one of a handful of Barristers who regularly appears for individuals subject to TPIMS (formerly Control Orders).
Naeem was given the award of Criminal Lawyer of the Year following consideration of nominations by an independent panel of judges chaired by HHJ Pegden QC.
