Orlando Pownall QC and Jonathan Laidlaw QC successfully defend in Cairns Trial

Today, Monday 30th November, Chris Cairns and Andrew Fitch-Holland were found not guilty of perjury and perverting the course of justice after a 9 week trial at Southwark Crown Court.

Chris Cairns, a former New Zealand national cricketer, was alleged to have lied in libel proceedings in the High Court when he claimed that he had never been involved in fixing cricket matches. Andrew Fitch-Holland, Cairn’s barrister, was also on trial for perverting the course of justice. Both have been cleared of all allegations.

Orlando Pownall QC was instructed to represent Chris Cairns by Colin Nott of Hallinan Blackburn Gittins & Nott Solicitors.

Jonathan Laidlaw QC was instructed to represent Andrew Fitch-Holland by Giles Bark-Jones of Bark & Co.
