Peter Wright QC successfully prosecutes Met Police Commander Ali Dizaei

13 February 2012

Peter Wright QC has successfully prosecuted Metropolitan Police Commander Ali Dizaei for a second time.  Mr Dizaei was originally prosecuted in 2010.  He served 15 months of a four year sentence before the Court of Appeal ordered a re-trial, which was heard this month at Southwark Crown Court.  Mr Dizaei stands convicted of midsconduct in a public office and perverting the course of justice.

Passing sentence, the judge, Mr Justice Saunders, said: "You are a very senior officer. The breach of trust that the public has placed in you is the more serious because of your senior appointment.
