Direct Access

 

While most of our instructions come from solicitors in private practice, in fact there are a number of other ways in which you can instruct our barristers.  We accept instructions from:

  • Members of the public
  • In-house counsel, or Directors and Officers of cormpanies 
  • Organisations granted a special licence by the Bar Council to instruct barristers directly
  • Members of professional bodies specified by the Bar Council (including certain accountants and taxation advisers, insolvency practitioners, architects and surveyors, engineers, actuaries and insurers, amongst others) who are automatically deemed to be authorised licensed access clients.

For clients requiring advice in one of our specialised areas, or a point of law of a sort which solicitors are likely to refer to specialised counsel in any event, an alternative and cost-effective solution can be to instruct a barrister directly.
