Ben Heaviside is the first point of contact in relation to diary management, case allocation and fees negotiation for senior members’ in chambers. In conjunction with the Director of Clerking, Ben is involved in the running of key client programmes across multiple practice areas and the strategic planning of chambers business.
Ben oversees the day to day management of the diary, assisted by the practice clerks and a junior clerk. He is trained to deal with public access cases and regularly deals with queries from clients under the Bar Council’s public access scheme. Described as “fantastic” in Chambers UK 2017, he is known to be helpful, friendly and knowledgeable in the subjects of all of chambers practice areas. He is described as going “above and beyond the call of duty” in the Legal 500 2016.
In 2015, Ben became one of a small cohort of barristers clerks who obtained the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management through the ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management), an organisation of which he is now a professional member.
He joined 2 Hare Court in early 2009 from a leading London set of chambers where he had been for over 7 years.
“If there are any difficulties with listings or the court, he always just deals with the matter and resolves it without you having to lift a finger. There are not many clerks who are that responsive and productive” – Legal 500 2016
