One of the foremost criminal advocates of his generation.
As Treasury Counsel he conducted some of the most serious trials of the day at the Central Criminal Court for some ten years before being appointed Director of Public Prosecutions; in this role he instructed counsel for the Crown in the appeals of the Guildford Four and the Birmingham Six.
Since 1991 he has continued to prosecute in major cases and also appears for the defence. Between 2000 and 2004 he was involved in the hearings of the Bloody Sunday Inquiry.
