Sarah Turnock
Sarah Turnock was invited to join Chambers in September 2009. General and Financial Crime Sarah prosecutes, defends and advises on all criminal and related matters. She has extensive experience of advocacy and advisory work in proceedings before Magistrates' Courts, Crown Courts and the Court of Appeal, having prosecuted and defended at all stages of proceedings. She also maintains a particular interest in financial crime, having been regularly instructed in contested cash forfeiture hearings, including associated appeals by HM Revenue and Customs and having acted for both the defence and the Department of Work and Pensions in cases of benefit fraud, as well as in numerous confiscation hearings. Regulatory & Professional Discipline In addition to her crime-based practice, Sarah is undertaking an increasing amount of defence regulatory work before tribunals, which have included the GSCC, NMC and Care Standards Tribunal. Sarah also has experience in the preliminary stages of regulatory proceedings, having recently been instructed by Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP to draft reports for the NMC Investigating Committee. Civil Sarah spent most of 2010 managing her busy court-based practice alongside instructions from the Treasury Solicitor to act as part of the junior barrister disclosure team working on the Guantanamo Bay detainees' civil damages claim in the High Court. More recently, she has been instructed by the Treasury Solicitor in cases involving asset freeze orders. Appontments/Qualifications Sarah has DV security clearance, valid until 2015, and is a CPS Grade 2 Prosecutor. She is also qualified to accept instructions directly from members of the public; more details on the Public Access scheme can be found here. She is also a member of the CBA's Education and Training Committee.
