Rachel joined chambers in October 2011 as a third six pupil following a pupillage at 2 Bedford Row. She is regularly instructed in the Magistrates', Youth and Crown Courts. Her work includes a range of criminal offences and matters of civil forfeiture, and although she primarily defends she is regularly instructed by the Crown Prosecution Service for remand lists, trial lists, sentencing hearings and a range of preliminary hearings and PCMH's. She also prosecutes on behalf of the National Probation Service for breach hearings and trials, and the Commissioners of Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs regarding the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

Her written work includes applying to the Court of Appeal seeking permission to appeal to the Supreme Court, and advices including appeals to the Court of Appeal, the Bribery Act 2010, the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and the instruction of expert witnesses relating to the provision of medical specimens.

Prior to pupillage Rachel completed a number of work placements regarding a range of criminological areas:

2008: Howard League for Penal Reform: Internship

2009: Paralegal for London firm of solicitors specialising in terrorism and serious crime

2009: Research assistant for expert witness reports: The first report related to a death in custody raising issues of racial discrimination by the police, whilst the second surrounded the possible deportation of a foreign national with previous involvement in serious organised crime who later acted as an informant and addressed the possible dangers he would face if deported.

2009: Institute for Criminal Policy Research - King's College London: researcher for the Prevention of and Fight Against Crime: The Fugitive Investigation and Global Harm Reduction Taskforce relating to absconders and fugitives from justice

2009: The Specialist Crime Prevention and Partnership Command's Research and Development Unit - Scotland Yard: Trident: internship producing piece on uncooperative witnesses and victims in serious, organised and violent crime
