Alex joined chambers as a first six pupil in September 2011.

Before commencing pupillage Alex worked for a leading firm of criminal solicitors. While there he managed a caseload, which included several serious and complex cases, and provided assistance to other litigators in general criminal, terrorism and family matters. In 2008 he became an accredited police station representative, and he has represented a wide range of clients, including young people and those suffering from mental illness.

Alex has also been employed at the London School of Economics, where he provided research assistance to Professor Eileen Munro on the issue of Gillick competence and information sharing, and worked as a political consultant for a number of organisations. He has written parliamentary select committee submissions, representations in support of Freedom of Information requests and drafted amendments to legislation. Between 2004 and 2008 he was a trustee of the Children's Rights Alliance for England.

Alex is an experienced public speaker. At university he mooted frequently at college and university level, and in 2010 was a semi-finalist in the inter-collegiate mooting competition. As part of his work with the Children's Rights Alliance he chaired two of their national conferences, as well as undertaking a variety of public speaking and media work on their behalf.
