Crime

Alex's criminal practice encompasses both defence and prosecution work. She is instructed alone in cases of serious violence and firearms offences, sexual offences, drugs supply and complex fraud and money laundering.

As junior counsel she has appeared in a number of complex and high profile cases. Recent examples include the successful prosecution of the 'Nightstalker' (R v Delroy Grant) which involved multiple allegations of rape, sexual assault and burglary of elderly men and women over a 17 year period, and defending in a multi-million pound, multi-handed 'MTIC' (VAT) fraud.

Proceeds of Crime

Alex has particular expertise in the proceeds of crime and asset recovery. She is a consultant barrister for the Serious Organised Crime Agency and advises on all aspects of criminal confiscation and civil recovery.

She has appeared as junior counsel in a multi million pound civil recovery matter concerning drug trafficking on an international scale which raised a number of complex human rights arguments.

Extradition

Alex advises and appears for defendants in extradition cases. She appears in the Magistrates' Court and the High Court on appeal. She also advises the Serious Organised Crime Agency on all aspects of extradition.

Other information

Before coming to the Bar Alex lived in Russia for several years where she worked for Human Rights Watch and then BP. More recently she worked on death row appeals in Trinidad and Tobago sponsored by the Centre for Capital Punishment Studies.
